1. Rhyme schemes
Why do some songs rhyme?
Rhyming is sometimes used in songs to make them memorable, and to keep the listener interested. If you have rhymes in your song they act like memory aids, helping your listener to remember the lyrics and therefore the song itself. Rhymes also help with rhythm; the rhythm of the verse/bridge/chorus is kept steady by your rhymes, whether they be internal (in the middle of the line) or at the end.
Here are a few rhyming schemes to test out: choose your favourite song and write your own song using that rhyme scheme – tweet your song to @songacademyUK or email it to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will put the best rhyme on the website!
