Our holiday songwriting workshops are a perfect opportunity, in a condensed time frame, to write an original song with professional songwriters. Participants will develop their lyrical & musical skills with new ideas and techniques. They will develop their confidence and ability to express themselves…as well as meeting other like-minded young creatives and having a lot of fun!

Small groups for beginners and those already writing their own songs and wanting some inspiration/guidance.

We use the Soundtrap collaborative music making platform to demonstrate how to use digital audio workstations (DAWs). Workshops are via Zoom. Plus, we can run specific production workshops on starting out with Garageband and Logic.

If you’ve already starting producing your songs and would like 121 sessions on how to get the most out of the DAW you use (for example GarageBand, Logic) please get in touch via the form or send an email to contact@songacademy.co.uk.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE WORKSHOPS?

Individual Songs Songwriting Workshops
In small groups of 4 children each child writes an original song from scratch. Beginner, intermediate and advanced young songwriters are in separate groups. The workshop has a mixture of group songwriting exercises and one to one time with the Song Academy leader to help develop each participant’s lyrics, melodies & composition.

Participants will advance their lyrical and musical skills as well as developing their powers of observation and creative thinking.
Group songwriting workshops
Up to 8 children per group write an original song from scratch over 2 hours. The beginner, intermediate and advanced songwriter groups have tailored programmes. Key elements of these workshops include an overview of different song structures and genres; fun exercises to create & develop lyrical ideas, exercises to improvise melodies on different chord progressions, understanding rhythms & creating instrumental parts.

Participants will advance their lyrical and musical skills as well as developing their powers of observation and creative thinking.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

THINGS YOU’LL NEED
For the online songwriting workshops writing a group song, you’ll need a device to use Zoom. Make sure you’ve paper and pens and if you play an instrument have it ready! For the online song songwriting workshops writing your own song, you’ll also need a device to use Soundtrap (Soundtrap is an online digital audio workstation for browsers which allows you to create music and collaborate with others on songs. Login details will be given after booking).

For the in person songwriting workshops you’ll need paper and pens and if you play an instrument bring it along! (we’ll have a keyboard at the venue). Plus, please bring a drink and snack.
